The four examples of original works of art presented in our standard
offering are the works of Frederick Hayman-Chaffey. They are from an extensive
collection of paintings and drawings that form a part of our private collection
and which will be changed on an ongoing basis.
Hayman-Chaffey: 1920 - 1987
Hayman-Chaffey was born in England in 1920, obtained a scholarship
to the Royal College of Art, went to Paris to continue his studies,
traveled in France, Italy, Spain, Mexico and throughout South America
continuously painting and exhibiting.
From 1952 through 1955 he established his studio in Mexico to work
alongside such painters as Siqueiros, Rivera and Chavez Morado. Several
visits were made to North America, that resulted in a major exhibition
at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and an invitation
by the University of Minnesota to lecture as a visiting professor of
Art. A position he later accepted in 1965 and which resulted in a stay
from 1965 to 1968.
His first exhibited work was presented in 1937 at the Royal Academy
Exhibition in London and from then through his last official Exhibition
in 1968 at the Walker Art Center he Exhibited in countless one man Exhibitions
through the world.
Highlights were the:
- 1949, International Salon de Paris where he won a Gold Medal.
- 1953, San Angel Gallery, Mexico.
- 1956, Salon de los Andes, Caracas, Venezuela.
- 1957, Museum of Modern Art, Sao Paulo, Brazil.
- 1959, British Council, Madrid, Spain.
- 1961, Rome-New York Art Foundation, Italy.
- 1962, George Lester Gallery, Rome, Italy.
- 1963, Rowan Gallery, London, England.
- 1964, Galeria Bonino, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
- 1965 Rowan Gallery, London, England.
He was honoured with an invitation to present a major retrospective
at the Hanover Gallery in London, England, (the gallery that presented
Francis Bacon and Henry Moore to the world), in 1957, but was unable to
return to London in time.
Hayman-Chaffey's paintings are in museums and private collections
throughout the world.
